What is Norco?
Norco (an opiate analgesic) is amongst some of the most abused prescription medications, in this case, painkillers. Norco’s active ingredient is hydrocodone and acetaminophen. The most popular Norco is a 539, 10mg hydrocodone and 325mg acetaminophen, and subsequently, it is the most powerful, more powerful than any Vicodin. The risk of dependence and tolerance is quite high, as is, with all opiates. If you use this medication habitually whether it is for medicinal or recreational purposes, the body will build up a tolerance to the medication, meaning that over time you will need higher doses or more pills to achieve the same effect. Vicodin and Norco are very similar; the only thing that differentiates them is the amount of hydrocodone and paracetamol (acetaminophen and ibuprofen).
How Addictive is Norco?
Hydrocodone is widely available and its promising euphoric and sedative effects make it extremely enticing, especially amongst teen youth. What is not enticing about Norcos is how addictive they are, we are not talking about the acetaminophen and ibuprofen that is often combined with them that is addictive, but the Hydrocodone. One of the reasons Norco 539 is so popular is because the amount of hydrocodone is high, and comparatively the amount of paracetamol is low or it could also be said that there is more hydrocodone and less filler. Given a choice, an addict or abuser will choose Norco over Vicodin every time. The bioavailability of Norco is very high, and when snorted the effects of the medication are even more intensified. Similar effects are also achieved by chewing the medication. Medication in general is not a problem, but when the medication starts interfering with other aspects of the person’s life, including their health, it becomes a problem. When the body begins showing withdrawal symptoms due to stopping the use of the medication and to avoid these symptoms the individual continues to use, it’s a problem. These are clear signs of someone who is dealing with an addiction, and it should be treated as such.
Norco Detox & Addiction Treatment
Coming off of Norco or any opiates is wildly dangerous and puts lives in danger. It is strongly advised that any person wanting to come off of opiates does so under medical supervision, ensuring lives and people’s safety. Cutting cold turkey is ill-advised because the body has already become used to a certain level of medication and when the body doesn’t receive what it is used to, the body shows signs of withdrawal. Under medical supervision, people who are dependent will slowly be titrated off of the drug (will be given slightly small doses than they are used to until they are completely off of the medication).
Usually, addictions have an underlying issue and a reason for why the abuse began in the first place. It is important that along with medical attention, a person receive the proper counseling and therapy in order to help them with their underlying problems. As such, under a proper treatment plan, an individual will be able to receive that proper care that they need and that they deserve.
